As most of my Substack readers know, I’ve written and published a memoir: The Winding Road: My Journey Through Life and the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. The memoir is precisely what is described in the title. It relates some of the twists and turns in my life that led me to and through the NewsHour in all its iterations.
By the way, that was not the original title. Both Robin (as in MacNeil) and Judy Woodruff thought my original title was too amorphous, not descriptive enough of the book’s contents. They both preferred the final title. I thought it said something about them both as journalists. Nothing arty about it; simply direct.
Now for the One Time Only part:
On the afternoon of Saturday, September 30th, 2023, we will have a bit of a celebration of the publication of the book. The event will consist of my saying something, an interview with me by Tom Chulak, and an opportunity for those present to ask any questions they may have. Questions can be about anything: journalism, politics, my Substack columns, writing, and, of course, the NewsHour and my life and career.
For those who have bought books (you can buy them online or order them through your local bookstore), I’ll willingly sign them (although I’ve rarely understood why people want books signed). I’m sure we’ll have a few copies for sale. Exact change or check only, please.
Tom was the co-owner of the Chatham Bookstore in Chatham, NY. He says he never learned how to operate the cash register, but he interviewed scores of authors over the years. Although he’s a friend, I can tell you one thing for sure: I have no idea what questions he’ll ask, and he’s free to ask anything at all.
This event is free to attend.
The event will start at 4 pm and end no later than 6 pm on September 30th, 2023. It may well run shorter, but it will not run longer.
The location will be at:
Copake Grange
628 Empire Road
Copake, NY 12516
If you plan to attend, it would help to let me know, including the number of people in your party. For this event, please RSVP to The Winding Road
The Copake Grange is a non-profit community service organization. If you’d like to know more about it or make a donation, go to Copake Grange
Love this!!!
